You Should Know
When it's done right, indie-rock infused with piano and classical instrumentation such as violins and cellos can be quite transcendent. Stillwater, Oklahoma's Other Lives, who are set to release their self-titled full-length on April 7, shouldn't tinker any further with their sound because they've got it right. Their moody blend of melancholic strings and rich orchestration is sometimes reminiscent of Damien Rice's O and you can even hear hints of Radiohead on the moody piano track "Black Tables." With a diverse range of instrumentation including harmonium, organ, vibes, harpsichord, melotron, cello, and lapsteel, the Oklahoma band has been playing together for the past five years under various incarnations and the familiarity shines through the band's precise yet effortless sound. Their debut full-length is absolutely breathtaking and sure to garner the band a much-deserved following. This is the soundtrack to lonely nights and winding rainy-day drives. -- Capt. Obvious
