You Should Know
One of my fellow Last.fm'ers recommended I check out Philadelphia songwriter Kurt Vile. After doing some research I found out that Vile played guitar in The War On Drugs, a Philadelphia band that put out the criminally overlooked Wagonwheel Blues in 2008. Take the bluesy psychedelia of The War On Drugs and strip it down to the barest elements and you might have an idea of what Vile's brand of dreamy lo-fi folk sounds like on his new album God Is Saying This To You.... The album is a follow-up to Vile's impressive 2008 debut Constant Hitmaker, which was a bit fuller and more upbeat. Like the sepia toned cover for God Is Saying, the album's tracks are accentuated with a hazy tinge fit for late, lonely nights. It shouldn't take more than one listen to songs like "My Sympathy" and "Beach On The Moon" for fans of lo-fi psych-folk to fall in love.
