You Should Know
You may know Andrew Kenny from his band The American Analog Set, but the Texas native has moved back to Austin and offers up a new project called The Wooden Birds. The band, which recently signed to Barsuk Records, also enlists the help of Captain Obvious favorite David Wingo, who has scored a number of David Gordon Green films in addition to his work in Ola Podrida. Stylistically, The Wooden Birds' sound isn't that different from American Analog Set's. Kenny's leisurely pacing, repetitive guitar riffs and percussion, and entrancing melodies are still very much apparent. The Wooden Birds do have a more acoustic feel though, and added harmonies from vocalist Leslie Sisson give a fresh spin to Kenny's addictive songs. The band's debut album Magnolia is due out in May on Barsuk. -- Capt. Obvious
